Twitter Beef of the Week

I love Twitter beef. It is an underrated addition to the NFL fan experience over the last decade for passive observers like myself. The twitter beef following Super Bowl LVII with Juju Smith-Schuster versus several members of the Philadelphia Eagles, including this week's participant CJ Gardner-Johnson, was an incredible form of entertainment for all fans that delightfully used one of my favorite insults ever: calling Juju Smith-Schuster Tik Tok Boy.

This week I will decide the winner of the twitter beef between CJ Gardner-Johnson, who is now on the Detroit Lions, and Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers who lost to Gardner-Johnson's Eagles in the NFL Championship game last season.

In the pregame warmups of the 49ers loss to the Cleveland Browns, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are shown bumping into Cleveland Browns players causing the incident.

Gardner-Johnson took the opportunity to kick a dog when he's down by questioning the former All-Pro's toughness.

Deebo responded with a solid rebuttal, showing a video of Bears receiver Javon Wims smacking then Gardner-Johnson repeatedly in the face when he was on the Saints in 2020.

Gardner-Johnson came back with a more aggressive response, showing cockiness.

Want to see a dead body? Deebo bullies back, bringing a body bags and toe tags.

Reviewing the tape of the pregame fight, Samuel was shown bumping into Browns players but he did not get touched because future hall of fame tackle Trent Williams, who is quite literally the biggest and toughest person on a field including lab-built defensive tackle Myles Garrett, stepped in to protect his teammates like the bulldog he is. Gardner-Johnson takes jabs at Deebo's manliness by claiming he is hiding behind another man is a strong diss, giving him a point.

Deebo's response hilariously shows a video of Gardner-Johnson getting beaten up in game, threatening the same outcome if they were to ever come to blows. Deebo also tells Gardner-Johnson "boy sit down" with the clown emoji, which is great smack talk execution. Points for Deebo by talking down to Gardner-Johnson like a child.

Gardner-Johnson re-emphasizes that Deebo needs to hide behind Trent Williams, which is a little lazy but his threats about fighting the 49ers receiver on and more importantly off the field paired with yawn emojis salvages the tweet.

In a back and forth bout, Deebo comes in with a strong right hook. Spinning the on or off the field threat into a chirp about it has to be off since Gardner-Johnson doesn't play enough is a knockout type blow.

Contextual Points

Context is often ignored in our tunnel visioned society, but not in my analyzation of NFL twitter beef. Gardner-Johnson will have more heat on him since he initiated. Those are the rules. In a somewhat personal beef, considering CJ Gardner-Johnson's Eagles beat the 49ers to go to the Super Bowl last year, there are some factors that strip points from the cornerback.

In the aforementioned NFC title game, 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy was injured on the first drive, rendering the game a no contest runaway win for Philadelphia in the first quarter. The 49ers didn't really have a fair chance in the game, so dunking on Deebo Samuel demonstrates fake tough guy vibes.

Contextual point number two: Gardner-Johnson is likely out for the year with a torn pectoral. Talking trash when you aren't even able to take the field is Charmin soft. This reeks of a calculated maneuver to avoid risk and to lean on the "I'm injured" card in case these two meet up in the playoffs or if he needs an excuse.

Lastly, the Lions and 49ers do not play this year. Starting NFL beef when you aren't even going to play the person you are trolling is a wet roll of Charmin ultra gentle. Here you can play the hypothetical game, spitting jabs that won't ever have consequences. Due to the softness of these contextual points, Gardner-Johnson loses points.

Verdict

Due to Deebo Samuel's knockout tweet, and the soft contextual points made from the initiating Gardner Johnson party, Deebo Samuel is crowned winner of NFL twitter beef in Week 6.
